30 years of Cologne floods: memories of the 1995 floods

On 30 January 1995, the Rhine in Cologne reached a historic high of 10.69 metres and flooded the old town - just 13 months after the devastating floods of 1993. The masses of water had already broken through the mobile protective walls two days earlier. Places such as Kasselberg and Rodenkirchen were badly affected.

Flood award ‘Water forces! Visible signs of floods and flash floods’ - Application still possible until 30.04.2025!

Floods and flash floods leave their mark on nature and our cities. The Hochwassernotgemeinschaft (HWNG) Rhein e. V. is calling on people to capture these signs in pictures or videos and submit them for the Flood Prize.

Household survey on flooding in Germany in 2023 and 2024

The University of Potsdam has launched a household survey following the last floods in Germany in 2023 and 2024. Analyses of the collected data will be used in anonymised form in the project ‘Innovative instruments for the management of urban heavy rainfall events’ (Inno_MAUS) and for publications in scientific journals.
