Interactive Internet platform for Rhineland-Palatinate
Impetus for resilience and climate adaptation
The Competence Centre for Flood Prevention and Flood Risk Management Rhineland-Palatinate (KHH) aims to strengthen private flood protection and thus support the increase of social resilience to heavy rainfall and flooding in times of climate change.
The KHH has commissioned the HKC to develop a concept for citizens in Rhineland-Palatinate that sensitises them to precautionary measures to protect against flooding, increases knowledge and supports citizens' self-efficacy through self-preparedness. The aim is to set up an interactive internet platform.
Contents of the interactive Internet platform:
- Information on flooding hazards and precautionary measures (property protection and behaviour)
- Automated information on the flood risk of a house due to heavy rain and flooding (from the heavy rain and flood hazard maps with the respective scenarios) by entering the address
- Interactive questionnaire on the vulnerability of a house
- Assessment of the risk of flooding for a house
- Concrete recommendations for personal precautions with regard to property protection measures and behaviour for the house based on the results
The platform enables citizens to gain awareness through information and, ultimately, to take action. The layout and language used on the website should be easy for citizens to understand. The HKC network's expertise in science and practice will be utilised during implementation.
