The network for holistic flood prevention and flood risk management

 

The Flood Competence Center (HKC) is a non-profit association from Germany that connects flood-affected citizens and stakeholders in flood risk management to build a unique network. The HKC was founded in 2007 and consists of almost 200 members and cooperations. The members of the HKC are composed of national and international institutions and municipalities, citizens and policy-makers, science and economy.

 

The HKC brings together science and practice for the purpose of holistic flood risk management, promoting sustainable development and the provision and transfer of expertise.

Heavy rain: Survey reveals dangerous knowledge gaps

Flood can hit almost all people in Bavaria. But many Bavarians do not feel threatened by it. This is a result of the representative survey "Flood Protection in Bavaria". A total of 1,400 people were surveyed on behalf of the initiative Hochwasser.Info.Bayern in the Free State. One result is particularly disturbing for Constantin Sadgorski, head of the Landshut Water Management Office: "Although a third of Bavaria describes itself as well informed in terms of flood protection, only 13 percent know that heavy rain can hit almost anyone."

So at least the prospects presented by the city drainage companies (StEB) in an exhibition in the rotunda of the district council building. At the heart of the informative exhibition is a map showing all the hollows and depressions in the Nippes district that could be flooded by heavy rain.
