The 2024/2025 Flood Prize has been launched. Under the motto ‘Water forces! Visible signs of floods and flash floods’, participants can submit photos and videos. It's worth taking part!
There are many signs in towns and communities, but also traces in nature that remind us of the dangers of floods and flash floods in flood-free times. These include flood marks on private and public buildings, protective structures, but also street and field names, photos and films of past events and reports from contemporary witnesses. The Rhine Flood Emergency Association (HWNG) is calling on people to go on a journey of discovery and capture these signs of flooding and flash floods in photos and videos and submit them for the Flood Prize. Participants can submit their entries by 30.04.2025 either
- by email to ueifler@gstbrp.de or
- post on Instagram, Facebook or X (Twitter). To take part, the hashtags #wassergewalten and #hochwasserpreis must be used and the HWNG Rhine account must be tagged.
Important: The profile must be public!
The Flood Prize 2024/2025 is endowed with a total of 5,000 euros. A jury made up of representatives from Südwestrundfunk, the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine and the German Committee for Disaster Reduction will select the winners.

About the Flood Prize 2024/2025:
The HWNG Rhine was founded after the so-called floods of the century in 1993 and 1995. Extreme, far-reaching events and, above all, longer-lasting floods are possible, as the floods in Lower Saxony in early 2024 and the flood disaster in Bavaria in June 2024 have shown. Even those who do not live by the river are at risk of flooding, as the consequences of heavy rainfall events can affect anyone at any time. With the Flood Award 2024/2025, the HWNG Rhine aims to raise awareness of the dangers of flooding and flash floods caused by heavy rainfall by drawing attention to signs and facilities that are overlooked in flood-free times.
