News: Flood Prevention Award 2026 Recognizes Municipal Commitment

Municipalities that are committed to improving flood preparedness through innovative measures can now apply for the Flood Prevention Award 2026. The award recognizes practical projects that help strengthen municipal resilience to flooding and heavy rainfall.
Municipalities that are implementing exemplary measures to improve flood preparedness can now apply for the Flood Prevention Award 2026. The Association of Towns and Municipalities of North Rhine-Westphalia draws attention to this opportunity in a recent announcement. The award is presented by the Akademie Hochwasserschutz and the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) and is aimed at municipalities that contribute to flood prevention through innovative and long-term strategies.
The award particularly honors municipal projects that involve multiple stakeholders and take a holistic approach to flood preparedness. Eligible submissions include, among other things, integrated concepts for flood and heavy rainfall events, alarm and emergency response plans, networking initiatives, property-level advisory projects, as well as public outreach formats. Flood exercises involving local stakeholders and measures related to watercourse maintenance may also be submitted. The award is endowed with 1,500 euros.
The call for applications highlights that flooding continues to pose a growing challenge for municipalities. This makes forward-looking strategies all the more importantstrategies that combine technical, organizational, and communicative approaches while strengthening local resilience. The application deadline for the Flood Prevention Award 2026 is June 30, 2026.
