The Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband (EGLV) have secured €500 million in financing from the European Investment Bank to support flood protection and climate adaptation measures in the Emscher-Lippe region.

The funding will be used for projects such as river restoration, dyke rehabilitation, retention basins, and the modernization of pumping stations. These measures aim to better protect cities and communities from flooding and extreme weather events caused by climate change.

The long-term loan, with a maturity of up to 30 years, is intended to enable major investments while keeping costs manageable for municipalities and residents.
