News: Heatwave in Germany - threat of severe weather

02. Jul 2025

Germany is currently experiencing an extreme heatwave. In large parts of the country, temperatures will rise to up to 40 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The west, south and center of the country are particularly affected. Tropical nights with temperatures above 24 degrees make it difficult to cool down.

It will remain somewhat cooler in the north-east and on the coasts with temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees C. The first heavy thunderstorms are expected from Tuesday afternoon - initially mainly in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. On Wednesday evening, there is a threat of severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls in the west and north.

From Thursday, it will cool down noticeably in the north, while it will remain hot and thundery in the south. The weather is generally expected to calm down by the weekend.

The German Weather Service warns of an increased risk of severe weather, especially on Wednesday. Citizens should heed weather warnings and take protective measures.
