Together with the Competence Centre for Flood Prevention and Flood Risk Management (KHH) of the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Climate Protection, Energy and the Environment, the HKC is developing an interactive platform to encourage people to take precautions against heavy rainfall and flooding.

The KHH aims to strengthen private flood protection and thus contribute to increasing social resilience against heavy rainfall and flooding in times of climate change. The HKC aims to contribute to this by developing a concept that sensitises homeowners in Rhineland-Palatinate to precautionary measures to protect against flooding, increases their knowledge and supports the self-efficacy of citizens through their own precautions. An interactive internet platform is being set up to make it possible to

easily recognise the risk of flooding from heavy rain and flooding on a building with the help of heavy rain and flood hazard maps with the respective scenarios,
determine and explain the vulnerability of a building using an interactive questionnaire,
assess the risk of flooding for a building and
provide concrete recommendations for personal precautionary measures and behaviour.

The platform is intended to raise citizens' awareness and motivate them to take action. For this reason, care was taken when creating the website to ensure that the design and the language used are easy to understand, even for non-experts. The HKC has already successfully realised similar projects in the past with bonn-unter.de and floodcheck.net. We look forward to a successful collaboration!

The project was initiated by Christian Iber from the KHH together with the HKC at the HKC's general meeting.
