News: Final report of the ExTrass project on resilience strengthening in urban areas

08. Aug 2022

The effects of increasing extreme weather events are coming more and more into focus - how can the resulting challenges be dealt with, especially in urban areas? What are the possibilities for adaptation?

These and other questions were addressed by the research project ExTrass

The research project ExTrass investigated the topic of urban resilience to extreme weather events during the project period 2018-2021. It dealt with extreme events and their effects on cities - in the process, an inventory of adaptations was made and derivations for a future strengthening of resilience were worked out.

Besides heat waves, the risks of heavy rainfall are a very important field, as the events in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, last year clearly showed.

The results obtained by Prof. Dr. Annegret H. Thieken and her colleagues in the BMBF-funded research project can now be read on the 121 pages of the final report of the project.
