Floods and flash floods leave their mark on nature and our cities. The Hochwassernotgemeinschaft (HWNG) Rhein e. V. is calling on people to capture these signs in pictures or videos and submit them for the Flood Prize.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for special and impressive contributions that document the diverse effects of floods and flash floods. In particular, photos can be submitted of

•     Flood marks that catch the eye,
•     Street and field names that refer to events or the risk of flooding or flash floods,
•     Ideas for sensitising people to the ‘forces of water’ (e.g.
•     Flood nature trails or public events, works of art),
•     Consequences of flash floods and flooding (e.g. blockages, damage to buildings and household goods),
•     Traces in nature (e.g. demolition edges, accumulations of floating debris, flood channels, newly created drainage channels or landslides),
•     Historical documents on past events,
•     Innovative ideas to counter the forces of water (e.g. property protection measures on the house) and
•     Video clips in which eyewitnesses report on a past storm.

How to take part
Send the photos (maximum three in high resolution) or a short video clip by email to ueifler@gstbrp.de or post your contribution on Instagram, Facebook or X (Twitter). To participate via social media, please use the hashtags #wassergewalten and #hochwasserpreis and tag the account of the Hochwassernotgemeinschaft-Rhein.

Important: Your profile must be public!
The submitted contribution is not limited to the member area of the HWNG Rhine.

It's worth taking part!
The closing date for entries is 30.04.2025. The best entries will be awarded attractive cash prizes. First place will be rewarded with 2,500 euros. Second place will receive prize money of 1,500 euros and third place 500 euros. The other winners selected by a jury will receive a prize of 100 euros.
The winners will be announced at the HWNG Rhine general meeting in autumn 2025. All winning entries will be published on the HWNG Rhine website and its social media pages.
