News: PARADeS - Workshop: Training of experts with the FLOODLABEL in Accra, Ghana

26. Apr 2023

On April 19 + 20, the workshop "Training of Experts" took place in Accra, Ghana, in the context of the PARADeS project. The focus of the workshop was the trial of a new concept for the training of experts, decision-makers and policy-makers. Through the pilot workshop, local flood risk management professionals, specialists and policy makers were provided with advanced and specific knowledge, skills and practical experience.

Through the cooperation of the Ghanaian partners NADMO (National Disaster Management Organisation), WRC (Water Resources Commission) and WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) and the German partners (University of Bonn, University of Freiburg, University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal and HKC) the new concept and first materials for the training of experts could be tested and evaluated during a workshop on site in Accra. A total of 45 participants from the project areas Accra, Kumasi and Bolgatanga took part in the workshop.

The FLOODLABEL GHANA was also presented by HKC in one of four workshop modules as a useful heavy rainfall and flood prevention tool. Participants were explained the multi-stage assessment concept for buildings, how to determine the hazard potential and risk to the home, and what measures can be recommended for self-protection and proper behavior before and during an event. Basic insights into the FLOODLABEL GHANA concept and the advantages and possibilities of an application were given and discussed with the participants. Furthermore, a selection of different products and materials was presented.

Special thanks go to our host partner organizations who supported us during our stay with the organisation and implementation of the workshop and much more.
